The origin of our name, DAR-O-NÓ is Portuguese, and translates to: To tie the knot.
Our story began in Portugal, in 2013, within a family business with 35 years of experience in the textile industry. Darono proudly embodies the family’s passion for handmade work and Portuguese heritage.
The choice of materials used, combined with a handmade-based production, unveils Darono’s dream of designing a more sustainable world with respect for our wellbeing and that of our planet.
Our artisans are at the center of the brand, expressing their mastery of handmade techniques and passion for cultural traditions. A loyalty to artisanal techniques encapsulated into modern designs. Combining expertise from different creative disciplines, in a wish to reaffirm our commitment to contemporary craftsmanship.
We experience craftsmanship as the perfect symbiosis between the artisan and the materials, where a rhythmic flow occurs, resulting in the creation of functional and timeless design pieces.

The idea of Darono grew from the materials up to the product, and further to the concept of the brand.
“We visited a lot of textile factories around Europe and realized that there was an enormous volume of resources that were being sent to landfills, by-products of production.” says founder Catarina Carvalho. “So we started rescuing this pre-consumer waste and testing the potential of each one of these materials. Hence, Upcycling being the starting concept of Darono! We see waste as an unexplored area of creative expression.”
Designing for circularity, responsible and mindful sourcing and the commitment to reduce our overall impact on the planet, are our inherent core values.
SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS
Manifested in a conscious selection of upcycled and recycled materials, elevating them to their upper potential and so reducing the use of virgin materials. We are constantly researching for more sustainable and environmentally sound materials and practices to produce with the lowest possible use of resources.
